00:01:34.921 --> 00:01:37.028
I'm just an old dog having fun.

00:01:39.061 --> 00:01:43.659
And tell me about this 40 year old record you broke Oh.

00:01:44.561 --> 00:01:47.090
I didn't know I'd rank was toward you already.

00:01:47.230 --> 00:01:49.819
You broke you two butter freeze record.

00:01:49.819 --> 00:01:51.906
That's from 1992.

00:01:51.906 --> 00:01:53.349
I wrote that record.

00:01:53.349 --> 00:01:59.792
Your wife, dad and Kavanaugh, who is also an amazing champion, knew that.

00:01:59.792 --> 00:02:01.837
So why are you having so much fun?

00:02:01.837 --> 00:02:01.876
I?

00:02:03.620 --> 00:02:05.948
Like the people that are running around the pool here.

00:02:05.948 --> 00:02:09.507
I Swim with a group and I like them.

00:02:09.507 --> 00:02:12.864
It's just friendship Many years.

00:02:12.864 --> 00:02:15.372
One of the boys just was here.

00:02:15.372 --> 00:02:24.723
He's about 45 now, oh, 50, but I know him when he was in high school because I coached high school, so I knew him well.

00:02:24.723 --> 00:02:26.608
But he's still swimming.

00:02:26.608 --> 00:02:29.173
So there's a bunch of us like that.

00:02:30.102 --> 00:02:30.985
How old are you now?

00:02:32.140 --> 00:02:33.223
You really want to know?

00:02:33.304 --> 00:02:37.115
Yes, 87 87, and when did you start swimming?

00:02:37.436 --> 00:02:40.786
when I was in the boysco I went to the YMCA.

00:02:40.786 --> 00:02:45.000
I was a little six-year-old boy with 40 other little boys.

00:02:45.000 --> 00:02:48.706
That's at the YMCA at the YMCA.

00:02:48.967 --> 00:02:52.274
Yeah, so it's fun that we are at the YMCA Nationals.

00:02:56.941 --> 00:02:57.623
That's true.

00:02:57.824 --> 00:02:59.068
What is your favorite strove?

00:03:00.021 --> 00:03:01.026
I'm a freestyler.

00:03:02.002 --> 00:03:02.402
How about?

00:03:02.402 --> 00:03:06.264
are you a sprinter distance Sprinter I am now.

00:03:06.366 --> 00:03:10.340
Anyway, i had some records in the distance, could not anymore.

00:03:11.402 --> 00:03:14.290
What is your favorite set you've ever done in practice?

00:03:15.121 --> 00:03:16.846
10 100s on 130.

00:03:17.167 --> 00:03:18.631
What are you doing, the hundreds on now?

00:03:19.841 --> 00:03:21.866
Three minutes probably that's great.

00:03:22.146 --> 00:03:29.973
So if you wanted to give One piece of advice to master swimmers with all the experience you have, what might that I?

00:03:30.820 --> 00:03:47.326
Think it's the camaraderie that you find with all the boys and girls as you're growing up of mine, and growing up was always with guys, because there weren't many girls swimming 80 years ago, but that's what's happening now.

00:03:47.427 --> 00:03:57.060
So the friendship that Everybody is just good, that's all so the advice would be get into swimming, because you make nice friends.

00:03:57.060 --> 00:04:01.493
That is beautiful, and I really appreciate you spending this time with me today.

00:04:47.166 --> 00:04:51.863
Cav Kavanaugh was a Popular man at this meet.

00:04:51.863 --> 00:05:00.067
I was hard to get near Cav because he's around his teammates a lot and he is Such an icon in the sport.

00:05:00.067 --> 00:05:26.639
Cav has been swimming in this LMSC for decades and my big takeaway of Cav Kavanaugh is that his wife, deb Kavanaugh, is an awesome swimmer too and they're always at meets together and they Seem to keep it fun as a couple and really support one another, and I feel like that's kind of part of their secret Is that they've been doing this together for decades.

00:05:27.682 --> 00:05:28.504
Yeah, i like that too.

00:05:28.504 --> 00:05:31.411
I like how she was like you broke a 40 year old record, she's like it.

00:05:31.411 --> 00:05:42.103
Yeah, for me that just the longevity of somebody who's been swimming since he was six or seven years old, so literally swimming 80 years.

00:05:42.103 --> 00:05:57.312
And he he talked about how he's friends with kids, that he Not that he coached but we're on the other teams when he was a coach in high school that they're now there has, now there is equals there And so just showing up swimming can it's a lifestyle and it's obviously worked really well for him.

00:05:58.021 --> 00:06:07.326
Yeah, and he has a lot of friends in the swimming community, so it was I'm glad I got a, i'm glad I got to spend some time with he and Deb.

00:06:07.326 --> 00:06:09.552
Yeah, wonderful, all right, thanks, maria, love you.
